LC-2 History
The LC-2 belt forms part of the U.S. military's long-running family of individual load-carrying equipment. The wider ALICE (All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) system was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1973 to replace the earlier M-1956 and M-1967 load-carrying equipment systems. Components of the system were progressively revised, with LC-2 identifying later-generation equipment.
The quick-release version of the LC-2 individual equipment belt was introduced in 1981 and assigned NSN 8465-01-120-0674 for the Medium size and 8465-01-120-0675 for Large. The quick-release buckle provided a more convenient method of opening and securing the belt while retaining the belt's role as the foundation for carrying individual equipment. Government records identify the Medium belt under NSN 8465-01-120-0674 as an LC-2 type individual equipment belt made from nylon webbing.
The LC-2 system saw service during the late Cold War and into the post-Cold War period, including the era of U.S. operations in the 1980s and 1990s. It was subsequently superseded by newer load-carrying systems, including MOLLE, but genuine LC-2 equipment remains of interest to collectors and users of traditional U.S. military field gear.
This un-issued Medium LC-2 belt retains the configuration of a genuine U.S. Army individual equipment item. Its nylon construction, quick-release buckle and adjustable sizing make it a practical piece of military surplus, while its documented NSN and LC-2 designation provide useful historical context for collectors and re-enactors.
